Ivorian singer Alpha Blondy and his band The Solar System is regarded as one of the best live acts in the world of Reggae.
Blondy, also referred to as 'The African Bob Marley', broke through with his debut album Jah Glory in 1982 and since then has never left the international stage.
He is also a staunch supporter of African unity, religious tolerance and world peace and to this end is known to sing to Muslim audiences in Hebrew and in Arabic to Israelis. Some of his best-known songs include "Cocody Rock," "Jerusalem," and "Apartheid Is Nazism."

A peine rentré de son pèlerinage à la Mecque, Alpha entre en studio et commence à enregistrer ce qui deviendra le titre éponyme de l’album : Eternity .
D’ailleurs, l’artiste ouvre l’album avec ce « chant du pèlerin », ce morceau reggae merveilleusement atmosphérique qui laisse présager d’énormes plaisirs.
On flotte littéralement sur les émotions divines du pèlerinage qui montent crescendo.
Un reggae lourd et implacable à la manière puissamment mystique d’un soleil oasien, nous plonge dans un rythme lent et pesant.
Une basse énorme et un arrangement à l’ orientale soutiennent idéalement un texte inspiré par cette fabuleuse prière, le Talbiya, que doivent réciter les pèlerins en se dirigeant vers la Kaaba. Chaque mesure est imprégnée de ce pas, emprunt de spiritualité, vers la pierre noire. Un premier pas divinement mystique qui ouvre cet album.
Alpha explique :
« C’est mystique. Quand on va à La Mecque, tout le monde est tenu de réciter ce chant. Quand j’y suis allé et que j’ai vu ces milliers de personnes converger vers la même direction en chantant ce refrain, ça m’a donné l’idée de cette chanson, que j’ai écrite en anglais et en dioula ».
Barely returned from his pilgrimage to Mecca, Alpha enters the studio and begins to record what will become the eponymous title of the album: Eternity.
Moreover, the artist opens the album with this "pilgrim's chant", this wonderfully atmospheric reggae piece that portends enormous pleasures.
We literally float on the divine emotions of the pilgrimage which rise crescendo.
A heavy and implacable reggae in the powerfully mystical way of an oasis sun, we plunge into a slow and heavy rythm.
A huge bass and an oriental arrangement ideally a text inspired by this fabulous prayer, the Talbiya, which pilgrims must recite on their way to the Kaaba. Each measure is impregnated with this step, borrowed from spirituality, towards the black stone.
Alpha Blondy explains:
“It's mystical. When one goes to Mecca, everyone is required to recite this song. When I went there and saw these thousands of people converging in the same direction singing this chorus, it gave me the idea for this song, which I wrote in English and in Dioula”.
